This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Stephen L. Gorad PhD. It is "Exhibit A-310" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a citizen of the United States, living and working in Boulder, Colorado. I am a psychologist by profession, and I hold an M.A. degree in psychology, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.

I first heard of Bagawan Rajneesh about ten years ago through his writings. I have never met the man, nor do I consider myself a "follower" of his teachings. I have read much of what he has written, and I have had contact with many of the people in his Centers, both in this country and abroad. Through this contact I have come to regard Bagawan Rajneesh as one of the most important teachers in the human potential movement, and as a religious teacher and spiritual guide of unusual power and wisdom. I have seen many people change in a distinctly positive direction, both in terms of mental health, and in terms of moral and spiritual health, from using his techniques, and following his teachings. He has helped many people all over the world in their efforts to grow as human beings. I consider Bagawan Rajneesh an asset to this country.

Yours sincerely,
[signed]
Stephen L. Gorad Ph.D.
