This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Stephen Proskauer MD. It is "Exhibit A-898" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 3 pages.

To whom it may concern:

A fully trained child psychiatrist practicing in the Boston, Massachusetts area (see attached credentials), I have been concerned throughout my career with the integration of new points of view and techniques into psychotherapy practice. Along the way I have utilized psychoanalytic approaches, gestalt therapy, primal therapy, bioenergetics, family and couple techniques, art therapy, movement and massage methods, breath therapy (rebirthing), and past lives work. Since 1977, my explorations have carried me beyond humanistic psychology into the realms of meditation and spiritual growth.

Across the entire breadth of this field, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh’s contributions have proved to be incomparably brilliant. In his lectures and meditation techniques, Bhagwan has created an unparalleled synthesis of western psychology and eastern mysticism capable of carrying man far beyond the limits of psychotherapy alone. He is, in my opinion, the most significant current teacher anywhere in my field. Bhagwan’s work has only just begun to have an impact on the world.

I can attest to the enormous influence it has already had on enhancing the power and effectiveness of my own work.

The training and research inspired by Bhagwan and continuing at the Rajneesh International Meditation University and the Rajneesh Institute for Therapy (both at Rajneeshpuram, Oregon) are constantly extending the scope of human potentiality and self-realization. These institutions are, in my opinion, the most advanced spiritual growth centers functioning in the world today. We can anticipate further important new developments coming out of them.

Sincerely yours,
[signed]
Stephen Proskauer, M.D.
