Testimonial letter from Sw Dhyan Vartan
This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. This letter is from Sw Dhyan Vartan (Thomas Wermund). It is "Exhibit A-1304" in the Noles collection.
The original letter was handwritten in German, a text transcription has not yet been created. A text version of its translation has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription.

 translationSwami Dhyan Vartan To whom it may concern: I have been working for thirteen years as a timber engineer with a large timberwork company. About four years ago, my personal and professional problems became so immediate that I decided to try out several therapy methods. However, after one year I had spent a large amount of money and time without any result at all, so I got into total resignation. I first came across the therapy methods of Bhagwan through a book. I found them very appealing and travelled to Poona for three months. There I soon felt that Bhagwan is much more than therapy - for me he simply meant life itself. I dropped my resistance and became a sannyasin. After coming back, my superiors noticed my big change and - to my great astonishment - trusted me with the management of the entire company, which I have since held easily and with great joy. I became more relaxed and happy and feel much younger, more healthy and calm now, which has, of course, a positive effect on my relations with my fellow men. I hope and wish that many more people will have the possibility of experiencing Bhagwan’s being and, as a result, experience the effective change of their joy for life. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to take any effort to make it possible for Bhagwan to stay in the U.S.A. This is a personal request from me and I thank you with all my heart. (signed) Sw.
