This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To whom it may concern

Since ten years I am working as physician and psychotherapist. In addition I am teaching the subjects of General Medicine and Sociology in Medicine at the Freie Universitat Berlin since 1979.

In 1978, I was confronted with the works of Shree Rajneesh the first time, when a female patient, whom I was treating because of a heavy borderline psychosis with suicidality, had a Rajneesh group therapy. At first, I was bothered about her participating two different therapies at the same time. But after a short period of time I had to admit, that her group therapy worked with an effectivity, I would never had assumed to be possible at as an heavy case as her. Within about one year this patient recovered completely. Some weeks ago I saw her again at an excellent condition of physical and mental health.

In the following years I had some other experiences, similar to this first one.

Curious about the theories founding such a successful kind of psychotherapy I read some books of Shree Rajneesh, and, although he does not write in the Western style of science, there cannot be any doubt, that he is an extraordinary philosopher and scientist. Concerning his universality, in this century I can only compare him and his work with Rudolf Steiner, the founder of the anthroposophical theory.

As for my person I do not see any reason to join the Neo-Sannyasin group, but from a professional standpoint of view I am just admiring the outstanding scientific merits of Shree Rajneesh in developing psychotherapeutical techniques of an intensity and effectivity that was not known befor.
