Shifting content in Hindi books (source document)
Osho's Hindi books contain a substantial amount of duplicated material which has arisen over the years, by being gathered (compiled) in one book and then in others, in some cases under three or four titles, as publishing needs, strategies and fashions have changed. This has happened more to his talks given before he moved to Mumbai in 1970 than to talks of other eras.
Osho's brother Shailendra has supplied a document which attempts to track these shifting chapters. It is a labour of love that has taken many years, and he has kindly offered the results of his research to Sannyas Wiki.
As it is entirely in Hindi, the wiki's editors have undertaken to create an English version here, to make it more accessible to non-Hindi speakers. The Hindi original will also be posted after some processing. The version here may take a good while to complete, and indeed, the Hindi version is also not yet complete. Readers are invited to inform the wiki of recycled chapters they know of that are not covered here.
Shailendra says that recent re-organizations of such material by OIF's publishing arm OMI have aimed to restore a natural order to these shifts and create a final "resting place" for these wandering chapters, aside of course from the inevitable thematic compilations, though those usually do not involve whole chapters.
Whole books gone?
To start with, the following titles will not be published any more, as their contents are compiled somewhere else, or their titles are changed:
- Purva Ka Dharma – Paschim Ka Vigyan (पूर्व का धर्म – पश्चिम का विज्ञान) (now compiled as ch 24 of Shiksha Mein Kranti (शिक्षा में क्रांति))
- Shunya Ka Darshan (शून्य का दर्शन) (now compiled in various books)
- Satya Ki Pahli Kiran (सत्य की पहली किरण) (now compiled in various books)
- Chal Hansa Us Des (चल हंसा उस देस) (now compiled in various books)
- Aath Pahar Youn Jhumte (आठ पहर यूं झूमते) (now compiled in various books)
- Anand Ganga (आनन्द गंगा) (now compiled in various books)
- Tattvamasi (तत्त्वमसि) (published in its four original letter-collections)
- Asato Ma Sadgamaya (असतो मा सद्गमय) (compiled in two different Upanishads)
- Shanti Ki Khoj (शांति की खोज) (title changed to Trisha Gai Ek Bund Se (तृषा गई एक बूंद से))
- Chetna Ka Surya (चेतना का सूर्य) (title changed to Yog: Naye Aayam (योग: नये आयाम))
Chapters re-compiled
These are whole discourses which were first published in one collection, then another, often separated from their mates and re-shuffled. In the table below, titles are represented as they are in the wiki, with links to their pages; the numbers are chapter numbers. Following the table, some books will be covered separately as special cases. Note that the first publication title is not necessarily in the first column. Most cases of duplication will therefore be listed twice, for easier finding.
