Talk:Dhyan Kya Hai? (ध्यान क्या है?) (2)

There are a few things to sort out regarding this book and its (former and still partially possible) connection with Dhyan Kya Hai? (ध्यान क्या है?) (1). We can start with what we "know", the Diamond edition shown.

The edition shown earlier has been removed, as it is in essence not different from the 2014 edition for which we have the cover and interior scans. The ISBNs differ superficially, but are really the same, one just expressed in ISBN-10 format and one in ISBN-13. And Amano Manish is called a compiler in one and a co-ordinator in the other. No big deal. -- doofus-9 07:29, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Concerning the Diamond edition, data are variable: 70 or 80 pages, pub dates 2005, 2006 and/or 2008. It has a nice format for the theme, with "answers" to the question every couple of pages along with pictures of Osho: Meditation Is ... An Experiment; ... A Leap; ... Remembrance; and so on.

These pages look like they could well be translations of some of Osho's 1971 letters to Sandeh but since it is not clear in A Cup of Tea which ones they are, some surmising may be necessary. Based on a decent but incomplete sampling of A Cup of Tea, there do not seem to be enough letters both long enough and addressing this question in this explicit, themed way to translate for this book, so there are likely other sources. Such sources could be earlier or later and so could include the first DKH but there's nothing compelling about that; the idea of translation especially makes a connection to DKH 1 somewhat less likely.

Neeten's Osho Source Book (Bibliography section) has two entries connecting the two early books:

Dhyan Kya Hai? (What is meditation?). Jabalpur, 1960-63. 20 pages. English edition 1973.
What is meditation? By Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Bombay, Jevan Jagruti Kendra, December 1973. 2nd ed. 58 p. A collection of forty-five immortal letters written by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh to H.H. Ma Veet Sandeh (Alias Dr. Miss Grazia Marchiano), Rome, Italy, President of Neo-Sannyas Int. for Europe. 1st English ed. 1971. 1st Hindi ed. Dhyan kya hai? from Jabalpur 1960-63.

These entries make the book of English letters to Sandeh in 1971 a translation of DKH 1, which is stretching the connection even further than the wiki had in its earlier iteration. This does not look very tenable. And then what? It is re-translated back into Hindi? I don't think so.

It is hoped that further research will establish a solid connection between this book and WIM, eg perhaps someone with access to them and translating skills can compare them. For now it can go on the back burner. -- doofus-9 (talk) 07:52, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

The 2014 Diamond edition TOC shows 39 chapters in ~66 pages. This makes them all fairly short and good candidates for letters. But they are not 45, so by definition not all of WIM's letters are here, and there is still no possibility of ruling out other sources. -- doofus-9 07:29, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

The list "Hindi-Diamond" from Shailendra confirms that it is the translation of What Is Meditation?--DhyanAntar 06:05, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
