Born in London to an Italian Father and Anglo- Burmese Mother, living in Australia since a small child,
Kavisha  comes from a big family of singers,healers and good cooks. Her papa ran the family restauraunt that the family all worked together in, her mum taught her guitar and her grandmother played the banjo and her uncle sings from the  Italian opera and Neopolitan bel canto tradition. She sings also with her brother, comedian and actor [[Sw Gyan Giri]]  and [[Sw Prem Sanjiva]] in ''I Papaveri'' Italian folk song band. Giri and Sanjiva also have created the outrageous''Black Nonnas Music Theatre'and Commedia Academy of Australia based in Fremantle West Australia(see'[http://www.commediaacademy.com/]in which Kavisha is a guest performer from time to time. <br>


Brought up in a loving Catholic family, Kavisha  sang in Church choir with her Anglo-Burmese grandmother and loved the stories of the saints but was looking for something deeper. At the age of 21 she came across the teachings of Osho Rajneesh, fell in love with the joyous heart path and  became a sannyasin with the name ''Dharma Kavisha'' meaning ''The Path of the Godess of Poetry''. She was at the Ranch playing music for Bhagwan and also visited Pune 2 briefly.Since then Kavisha has explored Dzogchen in Tibetan Buddhism , Advaita Philosophy with Sailor Bob ,and is currently a student at the Wu Wei Tai Chi School[http://wuweitaichischool.blogspot.com] <br>
Like a troubadour she travels around the country doing concerts of her own songs and leads vocal workshops.She leads 4 choirs in Melbourne. They are The Italian Women's Choir, La Voce Della Luna[http://www.lavocedellaluna.com.au/]who sing the traditional folk song repetoire of Italy,The Moon's A Balloon Choir a healing through song experience which is sponsored by Mental Illness fellowship Victoria,United Nations Of Song -an interfaith multicultural choir and Empty Sky which is a monthly gathering,singing chants from world sacred traditions and silent meditation. Kavisha brings all these influences into her joyful choir teaching,ecstatic singing style and exploration of compassion and deep,soulful silence through the gateway of song.<br>

Kavisha has won many awards for her music including the 2011 Australia day award as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her services to Singing Songwriting and reflecting the experiences of Refugee, Multicultural Indigenous communities through her music. She has performed at national folk festivals, International music festivals that include Woodford, Australia-Ireland Festival Dublin, Cork Arts Festival Ireland, Edinburgh Fringe Festival Scotland, Calgary Folk Festival Canada, European Union Broadcasters Festival Miscolc Hungary, Femme Funk Festival New Caledonia. In July 2011 Kavisha has been invited to EthnoHistria Festival in Slovenia EU. She has released 17 cds to date.<br>

I took Sannyas in 1981 and lived in the Sahajam Commune in Fremantle from '81-'83.I loved it!. I met wonderful people there and had unforgettable times and friends from that precious time! Thank you!
