Yamini was born 1939 in Oakland, California, attended UC Berkeley, and graduated from UCLA. With an art and music background, she pursued a career in acting and singing while living in Hollywood but instead became the designer for a major uniform company. Ten years later, she pursued costumer work at CBS and was hired as head of wardrobe in 1975. She also did freelance costuming for all the major studios, ending up at Warner Bros. where she designed for "The Flo Show" starring Polly Holliday.

In 1982, she left Hollywood and went to India to be with Osho. Two years later, she moved to Laguna where she studied photography and was juried into the Festival of Arts, which showcased her edgy, hand-painted photos of nude models. She then began a 10-year career, as a family portrait photographer in Laguna in 1997and later was inspired to specialize in goddess portraits in nature. Yamini created and produced the Festival of Goddesses in Laguna from 2011 to 2013, attracting over 800 participants.
