- notes
- Theme: "I have no reputation"
- synopsis
- This is not strictly speaking a letter, since it was written on a cartoon of Osho given to him during his talks on Gandhi and socialism. The image in the cartoon depicts Osho beating on Gandhi with a big stick, as he was indeed doing metaphorically at the time. A peculiar feature of the image is that both Osho and Gandhi look the same, as if Osho is beating on himself, suggesting possibly that he is damaging his own reputation.
- The cartoon, with Osho's handwritten response on it, are published in Laherubhai's memoir Blessed Moments with Osho.
- What Osho has written, hopefully transcribed correctly, is:
- मेरी कोई प्रतिष्ठा नहीं है ।
- इसलिय नुकसान पहुँचाने का सवाल ही नहीं है ।
- धन न हो तो चोरी मुश्किल है ।
- और जो द्वारा ही हुआ हैं उसे हशना असंभव है ।
- Translated roughly, it is something like this:
- I have no reputation.
- So there is no question of damaging it.
- If there is no wealth, then theft is difficult.
- It is impossible to defeat the one who is already defeated.
