Gito was born in Dortmund, Germany in 1958.
After studies in Art and Ethnology (University of Marburg 1979-82) Gito travelled as an independant artist around the world.
From 1983 - 89 He lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA with his first Gallery exhibition opening with paintings of the South West. In 1990 he moved to Berlin where he held various exhibitions in a number of galleries before migrating to Australia in 1993.
Gito now lives with his family in a rainforest retreat he handbuilt, and paints from his studio on the side of a mountain in Northern NSW.
