This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Dr. Gregory B. Press. It is "Exhibit A-483" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concerns

I am a Doctor of Chiropractic having graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1982 from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, I hold degrees in Bachelor of Science and Health, Associate Degree of Science, member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, American Council of Chiropractic, Maryland Chiropractic Association, and Dundalk Chamber of Commerce.

I am in full support of the granting of a visa to Bagwan Rajneesh. He is an asset to this country. His deep concern, understanding and insight into this country's and its people's problems, as well as his message of hope, is a contribution to the resources and creative energy necessary for us to prevail in these present difficult times.

It would not only be in poor judgement, but hypocritical for this country, founded on free thought, to deny a man of such magnitude and worldwide popularity, a permanent invitation or visa to stay in the United States. This type of political manuever is what I would expect in the Soviet Union or other countries opposed to or afraid of free thought.

I am not a follower of Rajneesh, but deeply respect his committment to the creation of a model society which is an alternative to our present society which appears to be rapidly self-destructing.

Sincerely,
[signed]
