This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Helmut Kreissl. It is "Exhibit A-288" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern

I have heard that you intend to deport Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh from the United States. Bhagwan lives now in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh played a very important role during my medical studies and my work as a doctor. The contradictions in modern Medicine in the industrial countries had made me more and more uncertain and helpless. On the one hand is the steady increase in specialized technical equipment, the medical and scientific research striving for more and more facts and information, and the escalating costs of medical care. On the other hand there is no noticeable improvement in the health of the people. In fact, there is a marked deterioration: an increasing addiction to tablets, alcohol and drugs.

Modern Medicine urgently needs a radical change in outlook. Here Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh can be of tremendous help. In his lectures (recorded now in books and tapes) he has pointed out very often to the causes of physical and mental illnesses and the means of healing these. His views on the subject can be summarized in a single short sentence: "Only love heals" (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh).

I am convinced that the work of Bhagwan in Rajneeshpuram in the field of Medicine can be of tremendous help for us all. Hence I request you to support the extension of Bhagwan’s stay in the United States.
