This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Sw Prem Dhyano (Klaus Heidtke). It is "Exhibit A-1081" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

To Whom It May Concern

My motive in writing this letter is based on a wish and a request. But first I would like to introduce myself. I am an artist and have been employed (tenure) for 18 years as university lecturer teaching design and color.

Six years ago I got to know the meditations of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. I also met people who knew Him personnally. And the following idea arose in me: should there really be a living Buddha, then I want to see and experience Him.

Although in Poona, India everything was different than I expected, the experiences I had there were such that I became His disciple.

Now I am finding out that some people in the United States are asking: ”Is this really a religious teacher?”

I can assure you that this is so. This opinion comes from my personal experience and is — needless to say — different from the opinion I held before I saw and experienced this man.

In 1982 I joined the Festival in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon. I was just as astounded about the lively and surprising development of the Rancho Rajneesh as about your country and its people. Everything I had known previously about America I had known second-hand. But the real America was different. It was vast and beautifully young. I am wishing for myself and for you that you would see the enormous gain which has come to your country with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

And this is my request: investigate this situation through your own personal experience and exposure to Rajneeshpuram. And grant my Master, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, the stay in your country to live and continue His great task.

Thank you for your attention and sincere regards
Swami Prem Dhyano
