Osho's salutation in this letter is "प्रिय मां" (Priya Maan, Dear Mom). It has a couple of the hand-written marks that have been observed in other letters: a blue number (34) in a circle in the top right corner and a second number (60) in the bottom left corner of the back side, but no red tick mark. रजनीश १७ नव. १९६१ प्रिय मां, एक व्यक्ति साथ थे। मैं राह भर चुप रहा पर वे बोलते ही रहे। सुनता था तो एक बात ध्यान में आई कि हम कितनी बार “मैं” का प्रयोग करते हैं। इस “मैं” के केंद्र से ही सब जुड़ा रहता है। जन्म के बाद संभवतः “मैं” का बोध सबसे पहले उठता है और मृत्यु के समय सबसे अंत में यह जाता है। इन दो छोरों के बीच में भी उसका ही विस्तार होता है। इतना सुपरिचित यह ‘मैं’ है पर कितना अज्ञात भी है! इससे अधिक रहस्यमय शब्द मानवीय भाषा में दूसरा नहीं है। जीवन बीत जाता है, पर ‘मैं’ का रहस्य शायद भी उघड़ पाता हो! यह ‘मैं’ कौन है? इसे अस्वीकार करना भी संभव नहीं है। निषेध में भी यह प्रस्तावित होजाता है। “मैं नहीं हूँ” कहने में भी वह उपस्थित हो जाता है। मानवीय बोध में यह ‘मैं’ सबसे सुनिश्चित और अंसदिग्ध तत्व है। ‘मैं हूँ’ यह बोध तो है पर ‘मैं कौन हूँ’ यह सहज ज्ञात नहीं है। इसे जानना साधना से ही सुलभ है। समस्त साधना ‘मैं’ को जानने की साधना है : समस्त धर्म, समस्त दर्शन इस एक प्रश्न के ही उत्तर हैं। ‘मैं कौन हूँ?’ इसे प्रत्येक को अपने से पूछना है। सब छूट जाये और एक प्रश्न ही रह जाए। सारे मन पर गूंजती यह एक जिज्ञासा ही रह जाए। ऐसे यह प्रश्न अचेतन में उतर जाता है। प्रश्न जैस जैसे गहरा होने लगता है, वैसे वैसे सतही तादात्म्य टूटने लगते हैं। दीखने लगता है कि मैं शरीर नहीं हूँ : दीखने लगता है कि मैं मन नहीं हूँ। दीखने लगता है कि मैं तो वह हूँ जो सबको देख रहा है। द्रष्टा हूँ मैं : साक्षी हूँ मैं। यह अनुभूति ‘मैं’ के वास्तविक स्वरूप का दर्शन बन जाती है : शुद्ध-बुद्ध दृष्टा चेतना का साक्षात् होजाता है। इस सत् ज्ञान के उदय से जीवन के रहस्य का द्वार खुलता है : अपने से परिचित होकर हम जगत् के समस्त रहस्य से परिचित होजाते हैं। ‘मैं’ का ज्ञान ही प्रभु का ज्ञान बन जाता है। इसलिए कहता हूँ कि यह ‘मैं’ बहुमूल्य है : इसकी परिपूर्ण गहराई में उतर जाना सबकुछ पा लेना है। रजनीश के प्रणाम |
