Letter written on 17 Aug 1962 om

This is one of hundreds of letters Osho wrote to Ma Anandmayee, then known as Madan Kunwar Parakh. It was written on 17th August 1962 in the afternoon. The letterhead has a simple "रजनीश" (Rajneesh) in the top left area, in a heavy but florid font, and "115, Napier Town, Jabalpur (M.P.) in the top right, in a lighter but still somewhat florid font.

Osho's salutation in this letter is a fairly typical "प्रिय मां", Priya Maan, Dear Mom. There are a couple of the hand-written marks that have been observed in other letters: a black tick mark in the top right corner and a mirror-image number in the bottom right corner. As with a couple of other recent letters, there are actually two numbers there, one crossed out (125) and replaced by a pink number, 127. The PS mentions events in Mumbai on 31 Aug.

The letter has been published, in Bhavna Ke Bhojpatron Par Osho (भावना के भोजपत्रों पर ओशो), on p 151 (2002 Diamond edition).

रजनीश ११५, नेपियर टाउन जबलपुर (म.प्र.) प्रिय मां, प्रणाम। कल संध्या घर से लौटा हूँ और आते ही आपका पत्र मिला है। आध्यात्मिक जीवन की बढ़ती प्यास ध्यान का परिणाम है। ध्यान-साधना व्यक्ति को उस परिधि में लेजाती है जहां आत्मा का गुरुत्वाकर्षण प्रारंभ होजाता है। एक बार ध्यान के शून्य में कूंद जाने भर की बात है फिर सब अपने आप होजाना है। हमें केवल एक छलांग लेनी है और फिर शेष सब आकर्षण का आंतरिक केन्द्र अपने आप कर लेता है। इससे ही मैं निरंतर कह रहा हूँ एक ही कदम उठाना है और मंजिल पर पहुँचना हो जाता है। अप्रबुद्ध जीवन और प्रबुद्धता में बहुत फासला नहीं है। फासला केवल एक ही कदम का है। विचार प्रक्रिया से जागे कि छलांग लग जाती है। और यह एक कदम कैसे आश्चर्य में पहुँचा देता है? फिर जो प्रगट होता है वह शब्द के बाहर है। दोपहर: १७ अगस्त १९६२ रजनीश के प्रणाम पुनश्च: बम्बई के लिए क्या विचार हैं? मैं कलकत्ता से वायुयान से ३१ अगस्त को ६॥ बजे संध्या निकलूँगा और १० बजे रात्रि बम्बई पहुँचूंगा। उसके पूर्व ही आपको पहुँचना है।

Partial translation

"Pranam – yesterday evening I have returned from home and on arrival, your letter is received.

...

PS: For Bombay what have you thought? I will start at 6:30 in the evening on 31 August by aero plane from Calcutta and would reach 10 o'clock at Bombay in the night. You have to reach before that only."
