This is one of hundreds of letters Osho wrote to Ma Anandmayee, then known as Madan Kunwar Parakh. It was written on 18th December 1961. The letterhead has a simple "रजनीश" (Rajneesh) in the top left area, in a heavy but florid font, and "115, Napier Town, Jabalpur (M.P.) in the top right, in a lighter but still somewhat florid font.

Osho's salutation in this letter is "प्रिय मां", Priya Maan, Dear Mom, Beloved Mother. It has a few of the hand-written marks that have been observed in other letters: a blue number (42) in a circle in the top right corner, a red tick mark and a second, pale and mirror-image number (67) in the bottom right corner.

रजनीश ११५, नेपियर टाउन जबलपुर (म. प्र.) प्रिय मां, रात्रि अनायास पानी गिरा है। सड़कें भीगी हुई है; हवायें आद्र हैं और आकाश में अब भी बदलियां हैं। लगता है कि सूरज नहीं निकलेगा। सुबह बड़ी उदास लग रही है। एक युवक आए हैं। स्नातक हैं और बहुत पढ़ा-लिखा है ऐसा मालुम होता है। बातों में किताबों की गंध है। एक घंटा बोलते रहे हैं : पर जो कहा सब पराया है। आधुनिक शिक्षण यांत्रिकता लारही है। अपना व्यक्तित्व और विचार, अपनी स्वानुभूति का कोई विकास नहीं होपाता है। बोलकर चुप हुए हैं और गौरव से चारों ओर देखा है : ऐसे भाव से कि देखा – मैं भी जानता हूँ! ज्ञान तो नहीं आपाता है, ज्ञानी होने का अहंकार आजाता है। मैंने थोड़ी देर चुप रहकर कहा : मैं आपको सूनना चाहता था, पर आप तो कुछ कहते ही नहीं है। यह जो कहा सो सब उधार है। इस में आपका अपना कुछ भी नहीं है। पराये से समृद्धि नहीं आती है : उससे दरिद्रता ढ़ंक सकती है, मिटती नहीं है। फिर अपनी अनुभूति ही जीवित होती है : वह थोड़ी सी भी हो तो जीवन में क्रांति होजाती है अन्यथा पूरी एक लायब्रेरी भी सिर पर ढोने से कुछ हाथ नहीं आता है : केवल बोझ बढ़ता है और स्वानुभव की संभावना दूर होती जाती है।“ यह सत्य बहुत स्पष्ट अनुभव होता है कि व्यर्थ का ज्ञान, वास्तविक ज्ञान के उदय में बाधा बन जाता है। सत्य ज्ञान के अवतरण के लिए भरा हुआ चित्त नहीं, शांत और शून्य चित्त आवश्यक है। शून्य चित्त में ही पूर्ण का अवतरण होता है। १८ दिस. १९६१ रजनीश के प्रणाम
