Dao is how it's actually pronounced in Chinese. The old-fashioned and in many ways non-intuitive Wade-Giles method of transliterating Chinese has been largely superseded by the much more straightforward and modern Pinyin, created by the Chinese themselves. But remnants of Wade-Giles remain here and there.
