Where else but in the UNITES STATES where freedom, independence an tolerance are ”at home” could a man like Bhagwan and his movement succeed and develop. Everybody should know by now, that this is an extremely peaceful movement spreading more and more over all countries whithout doing any harm to anybody. I am sure that Bhagwan and his Sannyassins -if allowed to stay at Rajneesh Puram- can do more for the peace of the world than for example SALT I and II.

When my wife started being interested in Krisnamurti and then Bhagwan I was neither willing nor able to "follow” her. (You must know that I am an insurance broker with a full time job) Our lives appeared to float apart - especially when my wife became Sanyassin. Meantime I have learned to appreciate most of what Bhagwan has said and written and new understanding and love for my wife have started coming up in me.

In a country like Austria most people are set against everything which is "alien" which they don’t understand; they don’t even try! Therefore I hope that Bhagwan will be allowed and enabled to stay at Oregon, USA, where democracy and freedom are part of the constitution.

This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Aegidius Otto Löffler. It is "Exhibit A-2174" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

Dear Lativa !

My Wife Ma Prabodh Nura gave me a call from the ASAVA-recreation center where she is living for a while. She asked me to write to You what I was thinking about Bhagwan an if I would support efforts from people all over the world to make it possible for Bhagwan to stay in Oregon.

Allthough I am not a Sannyassin and doubt if I will ever become one I want to state, that I find Bhagwan to be an outstanding and great man and teacher. I plea that he may be allowed to stay in Oregon.

It may interest You by the way, that on July 16th this year I celebrated with my wife the anniversary of being married for twenty-five years!
