This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Antonino Sucamelli. It is "Exhibit A-1442" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

ANTONINO SUCAMELLI
VIA APONIA 9
RIMINI
ITALY
25th July 1983

To whom it may concern.

After my degree at Liceo Scientifico in Rimini (Italy), I have been studying 4 years at the University for Physical Education in Bologna and Firenze.

As an ex-athlete and a teacher of gymnastic I have always been interested in the importance that physiological structure and body-movement have for the development of human beings.

Not reaching a complete satisfaction in a study of the body-movement, mainly mechanistic, I started to put my interest in other ways to look at the body: more in contact with the mind and the emotions.

At the same time, ancient oriental sciences like yoga and meditation seemed to reveal something that western approach always missed. That was the reason why I started travelling towards the Orient, especially India, in order to experience what I was looking for. Unfortunately the reality I faced was still incomplete: either the search remained mainly scientific in which the subject and the object of experimentation were separated, or following a belief system of old and limited cultural and religious models.

Trying to put into the reality of my work what I was experiencing, my major interest became post-Reichian physio-therapy. The body-structure and bodymovements were used as a reading mirror studying, understanding and helping to develop the character and personality of any human being as totally as was possible.

What has always fascinated any seeker in any field is to encounter experiences and personalities able to explain our quest to know.

When I came to know Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in 1978 during a visit to his Ashram in Poona, I finally felt that there was a man who had the capacity to synthesize the spiritual oriental intuition with the scientific western approach.

Since that time my work and my life changed completely. lt was like if all my intuition finally found a proof in the presence of Bhagwan.

As far as I can see all psycho-therapists in the West have no guidance that can lead them beyond the limitations of the mind. So they try to help themselves and people but anybody remains confined to human limitations. On the other hand almost all of the so- called spiritual leaders are in the same trap: their guidance comes from old scriptures or rules; there is no real Master able to put life into the scriptures.

The incredible and enormous value of the presence of a real Master like Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh makes any therapeutic centre that works under his direction (especially Rajneesh Meeitation University International in Oregon) the most advanced experiment existing now in the world. For the same reason the city of Rajneeshpuram where Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is living and working, is an amazing opportunity for the humanity to develop a new kind of consciousness. Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is surely the most important spiritual leader of this age. Let him work here!
