This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Arthur R. Tirman. It is "Exhibit A-1483" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I would like to express my support for Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. He should be allowed to live in America as a spiritual teacher of highly exceptional abilities. When he spoke, his wisdom was overwhelming, and now in his silence it is a beautiful experience to be near him as well. It is a more subtle form of communication than words and we have to be very still to feel it, but the communion is much deeper. Especially during the festival this July and last year which I attended, Bhagwan's presence was felt so strongly. I have felt inspired by him to work harder for the commune sending money when I can, so his vision will happen. That his presence here is an asset economically, culturally and spiritually is obvious to me.

Shortly before I became a disciple over five years ago I graduated from the State University of New York at Brighamton with a degree in Business Management. My contact with Bhagwan has greatly influenced my professional success. I am no longer obsessed by monetary gains and my needs are fewer, so I can function in business with less anxiety and greed.

To me the presence of Bhagwan in the United States is, and will continue to be, an important and valuable asset to the general welfare of all.

Sincerely,
[signed]
Arthur R. Tirman
