This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from David J. Harris. It is "Exhibit A-1722" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom it May Concern:

Bhagwan Rajneesh is an important teacher who is fulfilling our American heritage.

I am co-founder of the National Center for the Exploration of Human Potential that was created with the leading behavioral scientists that launched the human potential movement and humanistic psychology.

We have been following Bhagwan’s work for over ten years.

He is a master teacher of the highest order. Being in his presence results in raising the consciousness of those around him and releasing their potential in a highly responsible way for the highest social good.

There is no other being on the planet who is providing the service to humanity that he is. His teaching is the essence of the American way; self awareness of each of us for our unique potential responsibly expressed for the benefit of humanity.

It is the destiny of our American heritage to have Bhagwan in America. With him here we will surely demonstrate what we are all about. All one needs to do is visit the ranch and hope for the American Dream is restored.

At this time in history, we need all the hope we can get.

Sincerely,
