This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Dr. Elizabeth R. Miller. It is "Exhibit A-1822" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 3 pages.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I have been practising and lecuring for the past 14 years in the United Kingdom, and have specialist qualifications in Child Development and Medical Gynaecology (biographical summary attached).

I first came to hear of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh from a professional colleague in the U.K. I was impressed by my colleague’s care and understanding of her patients’ needs. As I came to learn more about the teachings of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh I could see that his knowledge and insights into human nature and, in particular, child development, were far beyond anything taught in the universities. Since then I have found that his religious teachings have enhanced my own standard of patient care enormously, particularly in introducing an element of love, which is very healing.

Although I became a disciple after Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh had entered his silent phase, I have continued to learn through his teachings in books and tapes. My ability to experience his rich message has reached a much deeper level from being present at Rajneeshpuram for some months recently and especially from participating in the recent Festival of July 1983. His silence intensifies the understanding of his teaching.

I have spent most of my professional life involved with child development from birth to senior school age, dealing in particular with children emotionally crippled by the society which they live in.

In the communities inspired by Bhagwan's teaching I see children behaving as they should, free to express their creativity, delighting in learning and experiencing life. This is obvious in their bodies too, which are sturdy, healthy, naturally developed, and in their joyful manner.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh has undoubtedly made an exceptional contribution to the understanding of Child Development, Education and Parenthood and his teachings on these subjects are internationally renowned.

With best wishes
