Testimonial letter from Giulio Marsaglia

This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. GIULIO MARSAGLIA COMMERCIALISTA REVISORE UFFICIALE DEI CONTI 20123 MILANO - VIA MERAVIGLI, 3 TEL. 86.57.88 - 805.00.37 Milano, 20 luglio 1983 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Ho conseguito la maturità classica, sono stato nella fine degli anni 60 dipendente per tre anni alla IBM ITALIA, ho conseguito la laurea in Economia e Commercio all’università Bocconi di Milano nel 1972, e sono iscritto all’albo dei Dottori Commercialisti di Milano dal 1973, sono stato nominato' Revisore Ufficiale dei conti con decreto del Ministero di Grazia e Giustizia del 25.1.1980. Dal 1973 esercito la libera profes_ sione con studio in Milano ed sono stato Segretario alla Federazione hfezionale delle Libere Associazioni dei Dottori Commercialisti. Ho conosciuto Bhagwuan Shree Rajneesh in occasione di un viaggio a Poona (INDIA) ed ho ricevuto un impulso per l’affermazione, anche nel campo del lavoro, di valori umani e religiosi. Personalmente ritengo che l'esperimento della città modello, intrapreso da Bhagwuan Shree Rajneesh nell’Oregon (USA), si inquadri in una ricerca pratica, e non solo teorica, di affermazione che è possibile vivere in un mondo migliore, fatto di vaio ri che rispecchiano maggiormente le esigenze e la notura dell'uomo e ritengo che gli Stati Uniti dovrebbero essere fieri che, non a caso, Ehagwuan abbia scelto la loro terra per attuare questo esperimento. Avendo vissuto a contatto con i seguaci di Bhagwuan Shree Rajneesh, ri tela go oltretutto che siano portatori di un influsso positivo nel mondo che li circonda, rispettosi della libertà degli altri e rispettosi delle regole fissate dalle leggi dei paesi in cui vivono. Ritengo pertanto che non vi siano rischi per l’ordine costituito dalla permanenza di Bhagwuan Shree Rajneesh in Oregon, ed una grossa responsabili, tà civile e morale ricadrebbe sugli Stati Uniti qualora di forza ponessero fine all'esperimento, attraverso l'allontanamento del maestro dalla città nascente. Auspico pertanto che nell'affermazione dei diritti dell'uomo e della sua evoluzione, tanto diffusi dal popolo degli Stati Uniti, non si voglia operare nel senso dell'allontanamenton contraddicendo di fronte al mondo intero i principi su cui il popolo degli Stati Uniti afferma di credere e di voler vivere. In 1972 I received a degree in Economics and Commerce from the "Bocconi” University of Milan and joined the rank of Commercial Doctors of Milan in 1973. In January 25, 1980 I was nominated as Official Auditor of Accounts by decree of the Minister of Peace From 1973 I have worked independently with my offices in Milan and have been appointed Secretray of the National Federation of the Association of Independent Commercial Doctors. I learned of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh while travelling to India, Poona and there I received the inspiration for affirming, even in my field of work, religious and human values. I personally believe that the experiment of the model city undertaken by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in Oregon, USA is part of a practical -and not only theoretical - affirmation that it is possible to live in a better world with values that better reflect the needs and the essence of the human beings. I also believe that the US should be proud that BHagwan did not randomly choose their land to carry out such an experiment. Having had contacts with the followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, I hold that they are the bearers of a positive influence in the world which surrounds them and that they are respectful of the freedom of others and respectful of the rules set by the laws of the countries where they reside. I hope that while affirming the human rights and the human evolution which are so spread in America, the actions will not be against this spirit. Such would be an open contradiciton of the principles on which the people of America say to live on and believe on. Truly yours
