This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from J. Joseph. It is "Exhibit A-1294" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I write and ask that Bhagwan Rajneesh may be granted residential status in the U.S.

As a religious teacher he has enabled many people to realise their true potential and to bring about great transformations in their lives. In my own life his teachings through books, tapes and videos has enabled me to experience a joy in living which previously I would not have believed possible. As a business man and a yoga teacher he has enabled me to share this joyous living experience with many people both in the world of commerce and in yoga groups.

My first contact with Bhagwan was through one of his books and something within those pages touched my heart. Within a few months of that first contact I found myself on a plane to India, longing to meet him personally. Since that time, even though many miles separate us, I feel a tremendously strong link with him and my fellow sannyassins around the world.

The love that radiates from Bhagwan expresses itself not only in fellow human beings but also in his love for this planet on which we live. Seeing the manifestations of this ecological planning of Rajneeshpuram in Oregon must be a beautiful example to the rest of the world, indicating that it is possible for man to live in harmony with nature.
