This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Lon Eakes. It is "Exhibit A-1724" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It MayConcern:

I am writing to you on behalf of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. I recommend him to you as a person of exceptional ability in the Arts from India.

My own credentials are as follows:

I have my masters in Speech and Drama from Sacramento State University, I’ve taught Drama and English in High School for 17 years, directed numerous plays, become a certified counselor for the spiritual group Wingsong, led video workshops there, and have taught Improvisational Theatre Groups privately for the past two years.

I have come to know Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh through his books, his teachings, and his students.

I directly apply many of his teachings to my own classes. His concepts of doing a thing totally, seeing God in everyone and everything, doing what one does with love, expressing oneself fully, being in the moment—these precepts, these ways of being have been invaluable to me as a teacher this past year, and have enriched my life considerably.

He is a spiritual teacher of International reknown.

To have such a man in this position can only be a blessing.

Thank you for allowing me to address you about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

It has been my privilege.
