This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Prem Amito. It is "Exhibit A-1885" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern,

I wish to express to you how strongly Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh has affected my lifestyle.

As an American citizen I feel that this country offers much opportunity towards education and personal growth. The doors of this freedom cannot be closed to a man who inspires immense creativity and consciousness in so many people.

From my own view I have always sought to know myself better, and, by doing that, I could also understand others - e.g. how all could live together, help one another in every way. I have seen that because of the set structure of society it is only possible for people to come together harmoniously once-in-awhile.

For three years I have been a sannyasin and have recently moved to Rajneeshpuram. It is proof to me now that Bhagwan has spurred a strong sense of well being in every aspect of my life as well as His other sannyasins. The most apparent change has taken place in the quality of whatever work I do. I care more about people and when a loving energy is given to a job it shows! And the difference between working at Rajneeshpuram and working anywhere else is a common bond among sannyasins to strive for self-understanding, awareness and sensitivity through love. As Bhagwan has an extraordinary ability of knowing the intricacies of the psychology of men, simply by living in His presence we imbibe His teaching. Yes, the books and tapes of His discourses also communicate an exceptional message and make a definite impression on us. But His silence is a deeper communion. To put the feeling of being near Him is difficult.

Anyone who is intelligent should be able to see and feel what has taken place here and how much has been accomplished in Rajneeshpuram since Bhagwan has been near; the growth of a beautiful city in such a short time... restoring farmland, building a shopping mall...everything done with such loving care. This man, Bhagwan is an invaluable asset in every way.

Sincerely,
[signed]
Ma Prem Amito
