This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Prem Amrita (Karen McMullin). It is "Exhibit A-1554" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I have been acquainted with Bhagwan's teachings for 4 years. I am a graduate of the University of Connecticut where I received a B.A. degree in Medical Technology in 1971. I did my internship at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT and am registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. I have worked as a Medical Technologist in many areas of the Lab. including research under a government grant.

I began reading Bhagwan's books about 4 years ago and my immediate impression: what a beautiful and unique approach he had to Science and Technology. Most religious leaders feel you can't have religion and science together. Countries like India have gone for the religion and America has gone for the Science and Technology and these countries are really out of balance. It really made sense to me because I’ve always felt a need for both.

Now that I am living at Rajneeshpuram I am able to experience first hand what he has been talking about and seeing His dream come true. We live well, and having the technology and religiousness both we have been able to build a beautiful city and live in a loving, rich atmosphere.

How can a man of such knowledge and insight not be considered an exceptional leader?

Sincerely,
[signed]
Karen McMullin
Ma Prem Amrita
