This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Prem Sadhya (Martha Carroll). It is "Exhibit A-1593" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN :

I am a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, New York City, where I received a B.A. in Mathematics in 1967. I worked on computer systems with Bache & Co. in New York until shortly before my daughter was born. I also spent one year doing sculpture and drawing full-time at the New York Studio School, on a scholarship.

Since I have been working here at the Ranch at Rajneeshpuram, I have done computer work as well as heavy equipment operation, and I'm currently purchasing produce for the community.

My introduction to Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh was by word of mouth and through some of his books and later some tapes. Bhagwan's main testimony is his disciples (sannyasins) and the people who have felt his influence and are in contact with his work. I was led quite unexplicably to the Buddhafield in Poona, and have been working with the Rajneeshees ever since. In the meantime this great Mystic has become an internationally recognized religious teacher.

I feel Bhagwan's ability to transform all the mundane aspects of daily life into worship and joy through a synthesis of the scientific and the creative is an invaluable asset to all the world. His presence in any country is certain to generate a tremendous productivity, a spreading movement of creativity, economic and scientific advancement, co-operation and joy. Rajneeshpuram is a living example of this. He takes us through the arts and the sciences, through education and fin all these fields He is superbly qualified) to a place beyond all these, using all the means available to us, where we can work together and bring our society to fruition.

Surrounding Bhagwan there are always new businesses, flourishing businesses, movement of capital, tasteful and creative development and co-operation. There is an air of productivity. It is certainly a boon to our country in many ways to have Bhagwan here.

Yours truly,
