This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Veet Tanha (Miss Eriko Saito). It is "Exhibit A-2664" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

Japan,

To Whom it May Concern,

I began to know of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in January 1981 through His books.

I was very moved by each word and had a feeling that He knew everything and would be able to help me. At that time I was in a terrible situation and was suffering alot. I had lost my value of judgement and my mind was over flowing with questions like, what is life or what is death. It is impossible for me to express how happy I was to come across His books.

After some time I began to feel unsatisfied with just readind His teachings and wanted to start living in the way he said. I visited a Rajneesh Meditation Center in Tokyo during March 1981 and started to meditate and take part in some therapy groups. That experience helped me to realize that His books, His words and His teachings are a gate that open the way towards something that cannot be expressed with words.

I took sannyas on June 12th, 1981 and continued to meditate and remained in contact with my sannyasin friends. As a result of this I became sensitive and became aware that Bhagwan was a person who existed in a different state from me. He is an Enlightened Master. So for me His existance is important.

There are many ways to be inspired by Him. To attend His lectures might be one of them, but just by sitting with Him many things can happen to me. It is not important for me whether He speaks or not.

He is sending me His message through His silence.

Yours faithfully,

Miss Eriko Saito.
