This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Dr. P. Palla. It is "Exhibit A-1740" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To whom it may concern

Again I heard about difficulties in the question of permanent-visa for BHAGWAN SHREE RAJNEESH.

I don't know wether there is a meaning for you that this visa is also a request for all friends and devotees of Bhagwan all over the world. However I would like to make my statement hoping for support in this matter.

I am at the University of Cologne and since 1972 in charge with the teacherdevelopment in the field of socielsciences. From 60 to 65 I was studying philosophy and theology when I was Jesuit; later I was also studying sociology and psychology until 1972. Since this time the inte(?) in my research were concentrated on basic questions of human-science of the West particularly belonging to the possibilities of a positive development of a identity-concept in a social situation, which is described as'postindustriell' by the great american socielscientist D.Bell. Working on this theme I discovered the books of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh which led me in a new phase of my research. I got strongly pushed to the questions of the work of M. Weber and C.G.Jung again. Now I am on the way to finish a manuscript about the synthesis of western and eastern understanding of rationality. Within this work I start to realize that Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh remembers us just in a time of deep crises all over the world at the human potentials of life. Also He opens our eyes for the real possibilities in human exist which are getting more and more lost in the development of the modern society.

The synthesis of science and spirituality - first shown in such a way by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh - is absolutely a new view in the histor of human beings and opens the door to a new age.

My hope and the hope of a lot of scientist's here in Europe is that the authorities in the USA take their responsibility and their chance to prepare everything for giving the Buddha of our time all these surroundings in the USA which can help America in being a center of spreading out the new understanding of human life.

Sincerely,
[signed]
