This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Susan G. Roberts. It is "Exhibit A-1489" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. To whom it may concern:

I am a graduate from the University of Adelaide with Honours in Psychology, and have taught students in social work for four years. During the second year of teaching, in 1979, I was fortunate enough to discover the religious teachings and meditations of the spiritual master, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

The first time I heard Him speaking about psychotherapy, I realised that His understanding of individual, family, and social neurosis and anxiety is deeper than that of any writers or professors I had come across in eight years.

When I began to participate in sannyasin-led therapy programs I experienced a totally different kind of therapy - one which works! Since this first experience 4 years ago, I have begun to understand what is so different about Bhagwan's approach to psycho-therapy: He brings to it the qualities of meditation and love, adding a dimension of spirituality which far surpasses intellectual understanding.

Bhagwan has been sharing His understanding for over 25 years, and yet only very recently are psychotherapists beginning to see the importance of the spiritual dimension.

Bhagwan is truly an exceptional man. His understanding is far ahead of our time and his wisdom is timeless, and by no means confined to the area of psychotherapy. I predict that this man's teachings are going to bring a change in the consciousness of humanity of the kind that has been produced by Jesus Christ, Galileo, Leonardo da Vinci, and all exceptional and outstanding people in our history.

Sincerely,
[signed]
Susan G. Roberts.
