This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Sw Anand Subuddha (Alan R. Hooker). It is "Exhibit A-1896" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I studied hotel catering and management in Brooklands College in the U.K. from 1967 - 1969. I then went to Tokyo, Japan, where I studied teaching training to teach ESL and business English at ELEC, The English Language Education Council. (A Fulbright Commission-sponsored Governement institute).

Since 1972 I have taught in Japanese companies, Sumitomo, Ube Industries, Marubeni and also Takushoku University and Toyo Junior College - all located in Tokyo.

I would like to talk about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh whom I first came to know about through a book transcribed by a disciple of Bhagwan. The book led me to Poona where I gathered more books and participated in meditations and groups.

When I returned to Japan I was able to apply Bhagwan’s teachings to my methods with great success.

For example, Bhagwan has recognized a need for catharthis in Modern Man, a kind of cleaning-out of the garbage collected in growing up (by garbage I mean the kind of trash one can see every day on T.V. - violence, exploitation, etc.) Without this catharthis no real receptivity is possible. I have found that students were much more attentive and receptive once they had thrown out their repressed feelings.

This is just one way in which Bhagwan has helped not only me but my fellow teachers all over the world. Let it suffice to say that Bhagwan goes straight to the root problem whether it is in the field of teaching, art or science, and comes up with simple practical ways to overcome it.

Truly this man is a man of outstanding abilities and a real benefit to the U.S.A.
