This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Sw Bodhi Samma. It is "Exhibit A-873" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

Rajneeshpuram, OR 97741

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN :

Bhagwan is among us and I wish to share my joy with you. It is so simple. After many years of search and disappointment and momentary joys I have come home to Rajneeshpuram. The miracle of Bhagwan, as I see it, is the utter ordinariness he offers us. The celebration of simple day to day life. Watching him drive by, I look around myself and see this miracle happening.

For anyone who wonders what it might have been like to follow Jesus or sit before Buddha, or any of the other extraordinary strangers who rarely come amongst us, Bhagwan is here. He is the essence, the absolute perfection of a human being. Before sitting in His presence I had no feeling of what life is.

By living and working in his commune I slowly come to feel the unity of this existence. Simply focussing my energy on whatever needs to be done and life becomes a meditation, a discipline, a benediction. Without Bhagwan this could not happen for me. Seeing that it has happened to him, a man like myself, makes me realise it could happen to me. He exists in such exquisite harmony that it seems to spread in his wake and rub off on all who come near him. He unravels the mysteries and gives freely to those who are curious. The nonsense that has created such a stench around religion, disappears in his presence. It is impossible to express the love and gratitude I have for him.

Love,

Bodhi Samma
