This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am studying Ethnology and Psychology in Heidelberg, West Germany at the Rupredit-Karls University.

Before that I was working for 2 1/2 years as a gardener and landscaper for a locally well-known and established gardening and landscaping company.

Reading the first time something out of His books, I was struck deeply by the intelligence and wisdom of this man Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. I felt, this man is talking the truth. More than three years ago, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh has become my religious teacher and master. His teachings and wisdom have great influence on my daily life, my studies and the way I am. Right now I am here in Rajneeshpuram for a visit to be in His presence and to experience some of the therapy - methods, developed under His guidance. It is an extraordinary experience, and I have a wide range of experience. And as a potential graduate Ethnologist and Psychologist I can state that His insight into the psyche and evolution of human mankind is extraordinary and almost incomparable and have halped myself and many others to open doors in themselves, which they didn't even dream about.

Even though He is no more talking to us, being in His presence is such a gift for me. Just when He is driving by with His car every day, jsut this few seconds, are such an experience to me, that I can understand that it is difficult for you to believe. How can a man teach without using words. But I tell you, He is teaching us through His very being, His very presence. It is beyond words. And without Him, a place like this, a gathering of so many beautiful and loving people, would never happen, whether He is speaking or not.

I wish you could come here yourself and be here for a while in this climate. Just the difference: The people here worshipping with such joy and love and caring for themselves and what they are doing. Even the smallest thing. And when I compare it with the people working in West Germany, life seems just to be a drag, the neighbour is the enemy everywhere misery and suffering. . Here life is lived totally different: with joy, laughter and love. Something immensely valuable and beautiful is happening here and it is happening only through Him.

Sincerely yours,
