This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Sw Jivan Anugraho (Dr. George Poole). It is "Exhibit A-1813" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To whom it may concern.

I am writing this letter as an expression of my support for Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his permanent residency in the United States.

My educational background includes the following degrees:
University of California, Los Angeles B.A. Psych. 1961
San Diego State University M.A. Psych. 1973
Los Angeles Chiropractic College D.C. 1978
I have worked in marketing for several large American corporations:
Radio Corp. of America 1963 - 1967
Control Data Corp. 1967 - 1970

I have been a probation counselor for the Los Angeles County Juvenile Probation Department, 1975 - 1979. I am presently licensed as a Doctor of Chiropractic in the State of California.

In 1977 I came across several of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh’s books, of which there are over 350. His insight into the psychology of man is extraordinary. I have read approximately 30 of his books and am convinced without condition that the man is not only a genius in psychology but also one of the world’s outstanding spiritual leaders. I have also chosen Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh as my spiritual leader and on June 5, 1983, became one of his sannyasins. 1 am now living and taking courses at the Rajneesh International Meditation University. In all my years of studying psychology I have found no other man to have such extraordinary insight, and also methods, in order to help man not only understand himself but also means of effective change.

His presence in the United States in an extraordinary asset for this country. His recognition as a spiritual leader is becoming known throughout the world. One had only to attend the recent festival in Oregon to observe 15,000 sannyasins gathered to pay respect to their spiritual leader.

One of the most extraordinary things about Bhagwan is the energy which he creates and what we now refer to as a Buddhafield. When he passes me my entire body becomes filled with light. This energy has had a profound effect on both my body and my personality. Both my body and emotions have become softer and as a result I now find myself more relaxed and more loving than ever before in my life.

With the above considerations in mind, I again ask that you sincerely consider permanent residency in the United States for Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. His staying in this country is extremely important for mankind.

Sincerely,
[signed]
Swami Jivan Anugraho (Dr. George Poole)
