This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Sw Prabodh Nityo. It is "Exhibit A-1920" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

To Whom It May Concern

I have been In business for myself since leaving college in 1969. My business interests in the United Kingdom are varied and include importing and exporting motor vehicles and allied components. With expansion in mind, I travelled to the United States of America in 1978 to view the market potential and see for myself why America had such a reputation for being dynamic and friendly at the same time. I found out why — the people are that way and know how to enjoy the benefits their hard work creates.

I started trading with American companies in 1979 and in 1980 established a subsidiary company in Atlanta, Georgia to expand the market potential. All very successful, enjoyable too.

That Is my background, a down to earth person, and a strong supporter of capitolism and the freedom of the individual that it offers.

I read my first Bhagwan book in January 1982, and for me it was nothing short of a revelation. My business success had provided me with material fulfillment, but there was still a feeling of something missing from my life. That book, "When The Shoe Fits" by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, touched something, that missing something, deep down Inside me. That faint voice in the background that used to ask, "There must be more to life than this?" was suddenly being heard loud and clear and at the same time, glimpses of the answer or at least of what was blocking the answer would appear. I read more books, visited a local Rajneesh Centre and was Introduced to meditation as a technique to explore that inside part of me that felt incomplete. Until I experienced these things for myself, I could not have believed they could be as wonderfully complimentary to my life as they are, and I now realize that what I was experiencing was Bhagwan.

I decided to visit Rajneeshpuram the next time business took me to the ’west coast’, but I couldn’t wait! I attended the 1982 Annual Celebration in July.

All that had happened previously seemed trivial in comparison with being in His presence, even for a few moments.

I have heard many of His amazing tapes and videos, but nothing moves me as much as being in His presence—in His silence. Something words cannot describe takes place, not imaginary, but indescribable. Whatever it is gives me a strength and resolve to pursue that other deeper part of me that hitherto had been so illusive. His teachings certainly go way beyond the written or the verbal. As a result of my experiences In Rajneeshpuram, my life has changed, blossomed, in all areas positively, and I know will continue to all the while I have access to Bhagwan.

I have followed with much interest the way in which the U.S. Government has handled Bhagwan’s visa application. Bhagwan has an Infinite wealth of love, human understanding, compassion, grace, the list is endless. His qualifications are well recorded and His religion is established worldwide. America has an abundance of material wealth, and now has an opportunity to share in an abundance of spiritual wealth.
