This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Sw Premdhan (Wolter Hall). It is "Exhibit A-1472" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

In 1970 I graduated as a Doctor of Law from Vienna University and took my postgraduate degree at the College of Europe, Belgium, specialising in International Law. From 1972-1973 I worked as a lawyer with the Customs Department of the E.E.C. (European Economic Community).

Since then I have represented the Ministry of Commerce and Trade of the Government of Austria, preparing and negotiating trade agreements and treaties. For the most part my concern has been with Asia. I studied Asian culture and religions and by this discovered the writings of Rajneesh.

I am sincerely impressed by this man’s dialectics, his techniques of debate and his outstanding contribution in the fields of psychology and philosophy.

I am also following the development of the newly founded Rajneesh city in Oregon with great interest. It seems to me that this city embodies the possibility of actualizing the Utopia of many philosophers of the past centuries:
Plato, Aristotle, Hobbs, ....

Rajneesh is certainly the most important and at the same time most mis-interpreted Master of our times. His work encompases the great minds of the past and is a refreshing and challenging approach to age-old concepts of freedom, religion and justice.
