This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Miss Wairimu Mahihu. It is "Exhibit A-2176" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

14th July 1983.

The Officer Incharge,
Visa Section,
Inmigration Department,
U.S.A.

Dear Sir,

VISA FDR MR. BHAGWAN

I am currently working in Management Services mainly dealing with property management. I started on this line soon after I graduated from the United States International University in San Diego, where I was taking a degree course in Business Administration upto June 1980.

I am also Secretary of various church Youth Groups mainly of Christian faith where I help organise drama activities, choirs, and camps for the church youth.

I came to know Bhagwan through friends of mine who have had the privielage of working and training directly from him. Since then I have been reading lots of materials and books written by him. I have also been listening to his tapes and through it all, I have found then to be very beneficial in deepening and better understanding of my Christian faith.

We shall be very happy if your government would consider giving a visa to Bhagwan to enable him set up a center for his teachings in the United States.

Thank you very much.
Yours faithfully,
[signed]
Wairimu Mahihu (Miss)
