A family history book containing 283 glossy pages and 100 photographs.
We begin our journey in Scotland, as the 18th century comes to an close. Our branch of the Menzies family contemplates their rural life. Within a generation John Menzies has moved to Dundee where he meets Helen Fowler. Earlier, in the Scottish village of Carmichael, Thomas Todd marries Helen Frame. Their son, William is born in 1789, the dawn of the French Revolution. He becomes a wright - or carpenter - like his father.
Down south in England, the Kirtons continue to farm at Branston near Lincoln, while in London the solicitor,Thomas Mann, ties the knot with Elizabeth Stubbings. Their son, Thomas does not take to the law but becomes an esteemed civil servant. Further south, in Cornwall, the school teacher Richard Rowe marries Jane Huddy. Their son, Thomas Nankivell Rowe is desined to become a tin miner and relocate to the village of St Agnes where he marries into the Daddow family who have lived since there since the 17th century.
By 1860, the great migration begins, as my ancestral strands begin to leave their homelands. These are their stories.
