Talk:Es Dhammo Sanantano, Bhag 5 (एस धम्मो सनंतनो, भाग 5) (6 volume set)

NB image at right is the one that used to be used as the cover image for Vol 5. It has been removed. Old discussion continues ...

Comparison -- i know, don't compare! -- between the cover images of this vol and Vol 6 shows that the covers both fit into a kind of format but were fairly free to have differences as well, beyond just changing the numbers. But beyond that, it may be that neither of these images is completely intact. That of Vol 6 is sort of frayed at the bottom, and Vol 5's image may be missing its top. Oh well.

The other concern here may be that marrying these covers with the phantom Rajneesh Foundation editions may be a stretch, as a stylized Devanagari Osho (ओशो, here done as ओ शो), appears on both covers and it seems unlikely that Rajneesh Foundation would not have disappeared and been replaced when Osho changed his name. Rebel was already around, so that would have been easy. -- Sarlo (talk) 22:22, 28 March 2014 (PDT)

Sep 2017 update

Discussion above is about this image on the right and the appropriateness of connecting it with any Rajneesh Foundation edition of this book. Not possible, really. And now that we have scans of the cover and info pages for the real RF edition of Bhag 6, we finally get to see for ourselves. And with Bhag 6, the last of the set, published in 1979, pub dates for the others will be even earlier. So this above right is some kind of Rebel or equivalent edition, late 1989 at the earliest, as attested to by the stylized "Osho" in Devanagari.

One thing more about the earlier discussion: It is evident that there are differences in the design format between Bhag 5 and Bhag 6, but this will not extend to the volumes being different sizes, and it can be seen that the proportions for these two tomes are quite different, this one having a proportion of 4:5 width to height and Bhag 6 3:5, another solid indicator that Bhag 5's cover image is missing its top. -- doofus-9 06:08, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

Now still September;) You are right in General. Your image is injured of Vol.1 Look, this is real cover for fifth volume. Upper and lower parts of the cover were cut off.

At least 1-5 and 8-12 vols. have similar covers. They are published Rebel in 1991. I am interesting only one thing: the number "5" in the red frame was pasted? I think so.

May i creat Es Dhammo Sanantano, Bhag 1 (एस धम्मो सनंतनो, भाग 1) - 12 ? I can only put pub infos and TOCs. I don't understand Hindi at all and so can mix up Hindi titles and names.--DhyanAntar 08:29, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

It will be good to make sure about something here. Do you really mean Bhag 1-12? There are 12 volumes in this version? They have 10-11 talks each? Maybe one is only nine? If so, great, make twelve new pages, and for the first six (Bhag 1-6) make sure they are named (2) to make a distinction between them and the existing Bhag 1-6.

And about the five in the red square ... it is reasonable to suppose that it is not a paste or other aberration or analogous artifact but a representative of yet another design format of editions of the series. For one thing, there is more than the five-in-a-square; above that is "भाग" (Bhag). If your Bhag 1-12 finds (source?) are really 1-12, it is reasonable to suppose that this old Bhag 5 image (still looking like it is missing its top, because of its odd proportion) is part of yet another series edition of unknown vintage. -- doofus-9 19:04, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Yes, the book in 12 volumes (source jainlibrary, the first five i created.

Here still there is such question: first six volumes will be with the name "(2)", and the others without. This will not confuse the reader when he will look through the category of Hindi publications? Of course, the page of this megaseries will clarify that. But still, create volumes 7-12 without (2)?

The color, font and definition (clearity) of the inscription "भाग" are slightly different from the rest of the lines above. Also, the small blue dash below is very similar to the part of the blue rectangle of the original. Strange proportions, marked by you, tilt the scalepan, that the image was cut off both from above and from below.

Since this image is very similar to one of the covers of the 1991 edition and has an inconsistency in the design with the 6th volume of 1979, let's leave it for reference and remove it from the cover of this volum. --DhyanAntar 06:05, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

I believe Rudra will prefer only renaming with "(2)" if there is a page with the same name already. If i'm wrong, Rudra can move them. One way of avoiding this conundrum would be to have names like "Bhag X (12-series)" which specifies and describes which Vol system is being used. I might better have thought of that earlier. But no worries. There will be an inconsistency between Vols 1-6 and 7-12 but as you note, the "Series" page will clarify that. Which is the lesser aesthetic problem?

We can retire the old cover image up top as it certainly is wrong for the 1979 edition. I expect that it will be the correct cover for Bhag 5 of some other edition, say 2001, with a slightly altered design as noted. Let's leave it up above for this discussion. And it does appear that it was cut slightly on the bottom too, as a few pixels of the blue box below the stylized "O Sho" are seen. That blue box would possibly have no real design function if the big-letters "Bhag" and the 5 in the red square were supposed to be the design feature to indicate Vol #. Thus, it remains possible that this cover is just a kind of fuck-up. Or a joke, a booby trap for innocent bibliographers. -- doofus-9 08:11, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
