Talk:Fingers Pointing to the Moon

"Unedited transcript" refers to the situation all but one of the unpublished Darshan Diaries are in, but this DD and the previous are in a special category of roughness. (See below.)

"7 or 27 to 31" talks/chapters refers to an anomaly which manifested in the CD-ROM. Mar 1980 was very likely a near-"normal" month in Pune but records of initiation talks got somehow mangled before transfer into the CD-ROM, so that the 27 to 31 nights of talks got jumbled and compressed into seven chapters and represented as Mar 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13. A similar anomaly happened in Feb (see If You Choose to Be with Me, You Must Risk Finding Yourself), though Fingers has the additional complication of the possibility of a few missing nights, ie non-event nights, due to a chicken-pox quarantine. Which nights if any are not precisely known, but they would have been near the end of the month, the 26th or later, since the discourse series at that time, Rahiman Dhaga Prem Ka (रहिमन धागा प्रेम का), only began after the 26th and is known to be missing three discourses from the "normal" one-a-day, though there is a decent chance those missing days were in early April. In fact, that last possibility is the likeliest, since the Apr Darshan Diary, Eighty Four Thousand Poems, is known from the CD-ROM (assuming accuracy) to be missing two nights, Apr 2 & 3. That picture is coherent and requires the fewest assumptions.

As far as is known, Osho's words for those all-but-a-possible-few nights of Mar are all there in those seven chapters but mixed up and possibly, like Feb, with things like names sometimes missing. A sort-of confirmation of this was found by sampling the purported "Mar 1" offering: 54 people taking sannyas, an unheard-of number, about four times the normal gathering of those days. -- updated doofus-9 21:21, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Updating that last paragraph . . . Names are certainly missing, and in significant proportion. A more thorough survey of the Feb and Mar darshans of that year, at Feb-Mar-1980 Darshans, has found names for only thirty people of the approximately 240 taking sannyas that month, with the "Mar 1" total more realistically at 49 (but showing only seven names). And that 49 would be more like seven to ten times the normal number of people taking sannyas. With the hot season underway, attendance would be dropping from high-season highs of twenty or more. -- doofus-9 18:03, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Missing dates cannot be late Mar as Rahiman's missing dates (dates without talks) are 2-4 Apr, see Talk:Rahiman Dhaga Prem Ka (रहिमन धागा प्रेम का).--DhyanAntar 05:47, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

First two paragraphs of ch.5 (starts with "Love is my message." and ends with "The ultimate experience.") is shortened version from ch.6, where more complete piece is given. It is interesting to note that a comparing of two texts show how editing was: splitting on lines, changing of punctuations, removing pieces of texts.--DhyanAntar 04:39, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
