- Here and there I see these links to Friends of Osho re the changes made to the texts. They did a good job to compare newer editions and compilations to the original sources (they used the CD-ROM as reference).
- Then they say:
- Osho had wanted his discourses to be published in their original form without any change or abridgement. Just a few years after Osho left his body, His words are being tampered with and indeed mutilated.
- I have taken a close look at the comparisons.
- 1. What I see is that, yes compilations do exist. Personally I prefer original texts and I thought that Osho wanted complete texts, but actually I do not and can not know if that was really what he wanted exclusively. One can be against compilations, but obviously they do have a role, e.g. in interesting big publishers.
- 2. As for "His words are being tampered with and indeed mutilated.": I really do not see anything in the editing that would justify such stark words. Pieces of text are choosen, yes. Specific names of e.g. sannyasins are left out, yes. Texts are modernized, yes. But I do not see any biased, tendentious editing, in some specific direction, no matter how suspicious I am looking for such changes, sorry.
- 3. A real issue, also in my opinion, was the case of The Book of Wisdom. It's title suggests an un-abbreviated work, but is in fact, from the 2000 Element editions, heavily abbreviated. When I asked Garimo about this, she said she knew about this and felt this was an error and should not be repeated in the future. I have not seen any other case like that. (They are publishing many books each year.)
- There is the opinion "we think that compilations are not good", fair enough. But Friends of Osho's comparisons suggest something horrible is happening, and I fail to see it. They insinuate big wrongs, but they do not deliver any proof. --Sugit (talk) 16:49, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
I want to add that some translated books are republished by russian publishers under a other name much different from the english original, and this is called the translation!
Sugit, your arguments are mostly fair. I am also very close to the position of friends of Osho.
I would also like to add that I leave the original as it is! What were the words of Osho in the discourses, they should be in books and translated editions are, in my opinion, fully consistent with the original, if they specify the rights of publication and the book was translated. However, all published editions during his lifetime, Osho books, which were edited by Osho, ought to be published and republished which they were. The same applies to the few compilations of Osho published during his lifetime.
Of course, publishers want something new, they make their own compilations. This apparently does not stop. I would like to see the original discourses with real names sannyasins! Because without names, it melts the contact and the feeling of touching with the Master. I feel shakes and breaks a wave of love when I read the beginning of the Osho response to the question and he says the name sannyasin (especially noticeable on video of the discourse).
