This is the earliest of three letters Osho wrote to JK Datta, an advocate living in Jabalpur in the 60s. It was written in the morning of the 7th of February 1964. The whole letter is typed, and as Shri Datta's other letters have both typed and hand-written portions where the typed portions merely replicate the hand-written portions, it seems best to consider this letter as another typed rendition. And the quality of the typed output, with its English words thrown in, indicate it has been done much later. Note also there is an error in Osho's address, 114 Napier Town instead of 115.

This letter is not known to have been published.

चिदात्मन्,
आपका अत्यंत प्यारा पत्र मिला है. मैं आपकी आंखों में सदा ही ज्ञान के लिए एक तीव्र प्यास को अनुभव किया हूं. यह बहुत बड़ा सौभाग्य है. प्यासा होना/पाने की पहली शर्त है. साधारणतया जीवन के दैनदिन प्रवाह में हम जो सर्वाधिक मूल्यवान है उसे भूल ही जाते हैं. उसका स्मरण बना रहे तो एक न एक दिन हमारी दृष्टि और जीवनधारा अनंत की ओर अनायास ही प्रवाहित हो जाती है. उसकी पुकार तो निरंतर आ रही है, लेकिन हमारा चित्त क्षुद्र में इतना व्यस्त है कि उसे नहीं सुन पाता है.

हम अपने में इतने उलझे हैं कि निकट ही खड़ा सत्य अपरिचित रह जाता है.

हम यदि क्षण भर को भी अव्यस्त चित्त (Unoccoupied State of Mind) होने को तैयार हों, तो उसके व्दार खुल जाते हैं.

वह उपस्थित है, पर हम अनुपस्थित हैं.

क्योंकि, हम सारे जगत में हैं, केवल स्वयं में नहीं हैं.

विचार दस दिशाएं जानता है, किंतु एक दिशा और भी है, वह ग्यारहवीं दिशा स्वयं की है. इस ग्यारहवीं दिशा में विचार की कोई गति नहीं है. इससे जिन्होंने केवल विचार को ही जाना है वे उससे वंचित रह जाते हैं. उस स्वयं के आयाम (Dimensions) में विचार से नहीं, विचार-शून्यता (Thougtlessness) से पहुंचना होता है.

जहां विचार नहीं है, वहां उसका दर्शन होता है.

समाधि यही है. और समाधि ही समाधान है.
