The film is a author’s cut of the five-part docu-series "Ten Thousand Shades of Osho" that serves as its basis for a movie format. The publication goes by the titles "Osho - The Movie" and "Ten Thousand Shades of Osho” (12 minutes shorter than the first one).

In fact, the title 'Ten Thousand Shades of Osho' captures the experiences of people who engaged with him, drawing inspiration from the term 'Ten Thousand Buddhas' that Osho used for those who listened to his discourses. For many years, Osho was referred to as the ‘sex guru’ and we provocatively linked the term 'shades' to the famous gray, red, and black trilogy. ”With a length of three hundred minutes, the docu-series is completely self financed and is ready to be distributed. During the Cannes Film Fest in 2018 it was announced a Feature Film on the same topic (see selection press links). This project is on hold waiting for the distribution of the docu-series.

In the meantime, a film of one hour and fifty minutes taken from the docu-series is also ready.

Navala Productions is working with Osho World Foundation oshoworld.com for the use of archive footage and other material.”

Osho's life is portrayed in this beautifully created and richly illustrated film from his early years till his passing.

By presenting Osho's early surroundings, the movie creates a very personal atmosphere. Even though it was shot in modern times, the rural footage of Osho's ordinary upbringing offers a fresh perspective not found in other biographical films; watching this movie allows one to picture the area as it was in the past.

Numerous interviews with Osho's followers and supporters as well as critics are featured in the movie. Being "balanced" and allowing Osho to come to life through these interviews is a notion that only partially succeeds. Certain common interview statements are only reflections of the interviewees' attitudes. It is possible that an outsider who is not associated with Osho and his Sannyasins will not discover how to ultimately approach this matter in the by the author desired neutrality.

Missing neutrality especially becomes clear while discussing the Rajneeshpuram period. This issue, which occupied a big chunk of 38 minutes out of 115 total in the movie, doesn't really allow for a definitive resolution. As an illustration: Constructing the "Utopia" in a desert in deeply Christian Oregon in contrast to a high level of criminal conduct among some Ranch members: what should one believe? Perhaps it's to acknowledge that we see both sides at the same time.

Along with rarely seen video from Osho's stay in Uruguay, the film also features his world tour. For sannyasins, at least, witnessing Osho's body deteriorate towards the end of his life might be a very moving moment in this documentary.

The movie ends in a somewhat erratic manner. If Osho's brother had shown the family chair that Osho always sat on, the movie would have come to a perfect end. The last scene featuring Miten and Premal, together with the pictures of Osho holding sound instruments, may have been presented sooner.

In summary, a watchable movie with some flaws.
